SATURDAY, AUGUST 29th, 10AM to 5PM
In this class students will learn the basics of painting with acrylic paints.
Topics include: differences between acrylics and oils, mixing colors, using additives for acrylic paints, types of brushes, creating effects with various brush stroke techniques, composing a painting, and transferring images to canvas. After students learn the basics, they will work with the teacher to create at least one finished acrylic painting.
Materials:
Paints: White, burnt umber, burnt sienna, yellow ochre, cerulean blue, cadmium yellow, Prussian or Windsor blue, cadmium red.
Brushes: (be sure to get the kind marked “oils & acrylics”, not “watercolor”). A small, medium and large sized flat and round.
Palette: a sponge box, or plastic palette, or small jars.
Something to Paint On: canvas, canvas boards, Masonite panels, or watercolor paper.
Reference images: photos, drawings, magazine clippings, etc.
Please indicate when you sign up if you will bring your own supplies, or if you need us to provide your supplies (that you get to keep) for an additional cost!
Instructor bio:
Robert Waldo Brunelle is a painter, kinetic sculptor, book illustrator, art educator and political cartoonist.
He was the art teacher at the Browns River Middle School from 1981 to 2012. He served as the president
of the Northern Vermont Artist Association from 1995 to 2012, and now serves as the NVAA’s Vice
President. He has been exhibiting his paintings in the region since 1978. He is a founding member of the
Vermont Comic Creator’s Group, and his cartoon strip Mr. Brunelle Explains It All appears weekly in
